4 Eggbert meals in 4 weeks

Be a ‘Super Dad’ to the kids for one week

Eggbert is one of my best friends.  He and I met about 5 years ago at a hardware store.  In the last 5 years we've had some wonderful wonderful times together.  And the best part is that all of our best memories have to do with delicious hamburgers and hot dogs and brisket and ribs and wings and ya, I love Eggbert.  He is my kamado grill that I adopted and brought into our family 5 years ago.  Little did I know that his courage and valor would lead to him being knights, so now he is Sir Eggbert, Earl of the Farmette.  But he just goes by Eggbert, since he's also very modest.

I decided that this year, I would make 4 amazing meals on Eggbert in 4 weeks.  And to make sure this wasn't just me having fun grilling, I was in charge of the entire meal, sides and all.  Of course I forgot to take pictures (who can remember pictures when the smell of sweet bbq is wafting in from the back patio?) but I did keep my recipes.  Here's what I made:

  1. Pork Hamburgers with salad and peaches.
  2. Bacon Cheeseburger hot dogs with artichokes and strawberries.
  3. Flat Iron fajitas with Spanish rice and refried beans and pears.
  4. Shish kabobs with twice baked potatoes, veggies and dip, and sliced apples.

The meals were awesome, and I'm pretty sure if there ever is peace on Earth, it will come because of people like Eggbert...

My next goal was very similar to last month's awesome goal.  Only this time, I was being an awesome dad for the boys.  I had to do something totally awesome for them, and whenever they wanted, they could ask me to do something with them.

Again, no pictures, except for the one I posted at the top showing my awesome lunch I packed for them.  However, I remember a few more things that I did for them, including:

  • Do all of the chores they normally have to do, like garbage and cat litter.
  • Wake them up peacefully, so they don't have to use the alarm clocks.
  • Play games with them.
  • Help pack lunches.
  • Fold their laundry for them.

Honestly, it was another wake up call to just how much I ask our kids to do for themselves.  Now, this is a bit more complicated because of course you want your kids to start learning how to do work around the house when they're young, so perhaps what I'll take away from this is just how grateful I am that I have kids that are really quite good at doing a lot around the house to help out.

I had fun getting to do things for my boys, and I think they had fun getting to boss me around for a change.
